Itinerary
Arrival at Pahalgam from Srinagar
Upon your arrival in Srinagar, you will meet our representative and embark on your journey to Pahalgam. The route takes you through Pampore, Avantipura, and the village of Bijbehara, known as the breadbasket of Kashmir. We’ll switch from National Highway 1A at Khanabal and pass through Anantnag, the region’s second-largest city. The drive becomes increasingly scenic as we travel alongside the Lidder River. Once you arrive, check in to your hotel for an overnight stay in Pahalgam.
Pahalgam Sightseeing + Transfer to Srinagar Hotel
- Morning: After breakfast, check out from your hotel and embark on a local sightseeing tour of Pahalgam. You can hire a local taxi (payment directly) for optional excursions around the Pahalgam valley, including trips to Chandanwari, Aru Valley, and Betaab Valley.
- Chandanwari: Located 16 km from Pahalgam, Chandanwari is famous for snow sledging on its snow bridge. Local taxis can be arranged for a round trip, taking about four to five hours along a semi-paved road, with the Lidder River on one side and snow-capped mountains on the other. Visitors often enjoy “snow fights” before sledging back down. The area also features stunning natural scenery and picnic spots, but be prepared for unpredictable weather—warm clothing and raincoats are advisable.
- Aru Valley: This picturesque village lies in the Trans-Himalaya region, surrounded by misty pines, conifer forests, and lush meadows. Although it is the smallest hill station in the state, its breathtaking beauty and activities like trekking, hiking, and horse riding make it a popular destination. Aru Valley is about 12 km from Pahalgam and is also a favored skiing spot in winter.
- Betaab Valley: Known for its stunning natural beauty, Betaab Valley was named after the 1983 Bollywood film “Betaab,” which was filmed here. The valley is famous for its serene environment, complete with the soothing sounds of birds. Located within walking distance from Pahalgam’s main center, it’s an excellent camping site for trekkers and adventurers.
- Transfer to Srinagar: After your sightseeing, prepare to head to Srinagar. Check in to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Notes:
- Entry Tickets: Please note that entry tickets for monuments and all activity charges are to be paid directly by the customer.
- Transportation Costs: Union taxis must be hired at your own expense for sightseeing in Pahalgam.
- Time Limit: The union vehicle will stop for one hour at each of the three stops. If you wish to stay longer at any location, additional charges will apply, payable directly.
Full Day Excursion to Gulmarg
After breakfast, embark on a scenic journey to Gulmarg, located 52 km away. Upon arrival, take in the breathtaking views of the area. Your vehicle will drop you at the parking lot, which is 1-1.5 km from the Gondola station. From there, you can explore the sights on foot or opt for a horse ride or ATV, available for direct payment (due to union regulations).
You may enjoy pony rides to the Maharani Temple and St. Mary’s Church at your own expense. A Gondola ride (cable car) is highly recommended, taking you to Kongdori (Phase 1) and Apharwat Peak (Phase 2), which is among the highest altitudes in Asia.
Maharani Temple: Built in 1915 by Mohini Bai Sisodia, wife of Maharaja Hari Singh, the temple features shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is famous as the filming location for the movie *Aap Ki Kasam*.
St. Mary’s Church: Constructed during British rule, this 110-year-old church was renovated in 2003. Its grey stone walls and green-tiled roof create a stunning sight, especially in winter when surrounded by snow. The church resembles a quaint countryside chapel.
The two-stage Gondola lift transports visitors to Kongdoori Mountain, with the first stage taking you from Gulmarg resort (2,600 m) to Kongdori Station, and the second stage ascending to 3,747 m on Kongdori Mountain, part of Apharwat Peak. Gondola rides operate from 10 AM to 5 PM, subject to weather conditions.
In the evening, return to Srinagar for an overnight stay at your hotel.
Notes:
- Entry tickets for attractions and all activity charges are to be paid directly by the customer.
- Gondola operations are weather-dependent, and tickets can only be purchased on-site via Jammu & Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (jammukashmircablecar.com)
- During winter (November to March), a chained vehicle may be required from Tanmarg at an additional cost.
- Your vehicle will drop you at the parking area, and all further sightseeing must be done on foot or via local transportation.
Full Day Excursion to Sonamarg + Transfer to Srinagar Houseboat
After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Srinagar and prepare for a scenic drive to Sonamarg, located 98 km away. The journey will take approximately 3 hours. Sonamarg, meaning ‘Meadow of Gold,’ is the last stop in the Kashmir District before entering Ladakh, sitting at an altitude of 2,743 meters above sea level. As you arrive, you’ll be greeted by stunning snow-covered mountains and lush alpine trees, making it one of the most picturesque spots in Jammu and Kashmir.
One of the highlights of your visit is the Thajwas Glacier, located just 3 km from town. You can reach the glacier by walking or opting for a pony ride. The glacier remains snow-covered year-round and offers some of the most thrilling trekking experiences in the area. The trek features lush greenery and a frozen lake, leading up to Shakhdar Hill, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the glacier and its surroundings. Sledge rides are available for hire during peak season, adding to the adventure.
For a more relaxed experience, you can explore the scenic Zojila Pass, situated at an altitude of 3,528 meters. Just outside Sonamarg, you’ll find a sparkling blue lake surrounded by vibrant meadows. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider a rafting expedition (at an additional cost).
In the evening, check into your houseboat in Srinagar for an overnight stay.
